(1864-1943)
Educator, Agricultural/Food Scientist, Farmer
George Washington Carver devoted his life to research projects connected primarily with southern agriculture. The products he derived from the peanut and the soybean revolutionized the economy of the South by liberating it from an excessive dependence on cotton.
Born a slave in the spring of 1864 in Diamond Grove, Missouri, Carver was only an infant when he and his mother were abducted from his owner's plantation by a band of slave raiders. His mother was sold and shipped away, but Carver was ransomed by his master in exchange for a race horse.
Dr. Carver created more than 300 products from peanuts and 100 products from potatoes.
Benjamin Banneker designed the lay-out of the city of Washington, D.C. and he created the first American Clock. At age 58, Banneker began the study of astronomy and was soon predicting future solar and lunar eclipses. He compiled the ephemeris, or information table, for annual almanacs that were published for the years 1792 through 1797. "Benjamin Banneker's Almanac" was a top seller from Pennsylvania to Virginia and even into Kentucky.
In 1791, Banneker was a technical assistant in the calculating and first-ever surveying of the Federal District, which is now Washington, D.C.
Thurgood Marshall won 29 of the 32 cases that he argued for "equality" before the Supreme Court.
Sojourner Truth was an ex-slave who helped other slaves escape from the cruel southern plantations via the Underground Railroad. She was also a fighter for the equal rights of women.
Rosa Parks has become known as the "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement" --because she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus--which lead to the famous Montgomery Bus Boycott.

People around the world have watched the ELECTION CAMPAIGNS in the U.S. A. with great interest… Most people in other countries do not like the Bush Administration and can hardly wait to see it go. A survey showed that 85% of the people in other countries would prefer to have Obama as President. People in Europe and other countries watched closely via YOUTUBE and other ways... particularly to see if most Americans would overcome their history of racism and elect a Black President.
Most of the silly attacks came from right-wing political interests, such as -- Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter… (and some Ron Paul — New World Order fanatics and supporters) … and the usual suspects -- white people who cannot stomach the idea of a Black man becoming the President of the
Despite the ugly attacks, slander and lies that Republicans launched… some of the hard-core right-wingers and white racists had been spreading about Barack Obama – he remained ahead in most of the polls and drew voters from almost every group.
MILLIONS OF VOTERS WENT TO THE POLLS TO CAST THEIR VOTES TO CHOOSE OUR FUTURE...
Would we become more responsible—would we choose hope over fear? Would we become more accountable about how we spend money — choosing to improve our schools, clean up corruption, stop the racial hatred, help our fellow-man, and protect the environment ? Or like the HOPI INDIANS had predicted…would we become the instruments of our own destruction because we will not live in harmony with what THE GREAT SPIRIT, our Earth and Nature demand ???

Jesse Owens embarrassed Hitler and his "white supremacist" Nazi party in the 1936 Olympics in Germany.

Jesse Owens is remembered for one stunning week in 1936, when he won four track and field gold medals at a single Olympics. The Summer Games that year were held in Berlin, where Nazi leader Hitler seemed determined to display the superiority of the German "Aryan" race. Owens, an African-American, put that notion to rest with victories in the 100- and 200-meter dash, the broad jump and the 4x100-meter relay.

Watch the original HARLEM GLOBE TROTTERS....
THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS:
The history of the Harlem Globetrotters is littered with incredible achievements, and they are probably America's best-known basketball team outside of the US. While primarily entertainers, the Globetrotters remained top athletes. In the late 1940s—before the ranks of professional basketball were integrated—they beat the champion Minneapolis Lakers. Between 1950 and 1962, they played a yearly series against squads composed of college all-stars, compiling a 162–44 win-loss record.

THE BEGGINING: Saperstein's team makes its debut on January 7, 1927... in Hinckley, Illinois, before a crowd of 300. The total payout for the game was $75. The team wore uniforms with NEW YORK on them; no doubt in giving the crowd the impression they were from that city. Saperstein would later add his family name to the jersey thereafter, "Saperstein's New York Globetrotters." The Globetrotters traveled on-the-road packed into Saperstein's Model "T" Ford.
SATCHEL PAIGE in baseball --
Satchel Paige was considered one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the Negro Leagues. He could draw a crowd and pitch a no hitter. He was entertaining, talented, and always on the move to the team that offered the most money. Despite his unreliability, he was a highly desirable player and teams were willing to take the chance of his departure just to have him on the team.
ART PENNINGTON -- (aka: Superman)
Playing for the Chicago American Giants, "Superman" compiled batting averages of .299 in 1944 and .359 in 1945 while finishing second to Sam Jethroe in stolen bases with 18. In 1950 he hit .370 with good power and started the 1950 East-West All Star game, getting a hit in three at-bats.
Art Pennington stands near a photo of himself from his playing days in the Negro League, Thursday, June 26, 2008, in his flood-damaged home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was one of the top players in the Negro League. Pennington lost most of the memorabilia he had from his playing days when his home was damaged by recent flooding. Historic high levels of flooding has caused major losses to thousands up and down the Missississippi River.
